IN CHARACTER
Name: Conner Kent / Kon-El / Superboy
Canon: Young Justice
Canon Point: Beginning of season 2
Age: physiologically: 16, actual age: 5

History: Wikia!

Personality: To say that Conner is a cheerful, emotive young man would be a blatant lie. He began life with the knowledge that he was a living weapon meant to either replace or destroy Superman, a purpose he rejected the moment he was offered the choice to be a person instead of a weapon. However, Superman's subsequent rejection of who and what he was left Conner with a lot of anger and confusion. At the start of his tenure on the team, Conner was confrontational, hostile and prone to lashing out because he had no idea how to handle things. Thankfully that ended up changing because of the people he had around him. His team helped him to learn how to deal with people without being an asshole about it. Not that he didn't have slip ups but as time went on he learned how to keep them to a minimum and just mutter under his breath angrily like a normal person.

The thing is, once you've proven you're on his side Conner will be incredibly loyal to you. Kaldur, Wally and Robin all proved that they were on his side and saw him as a person. This treatment was all it took to make Conner defy his programmed purpose and help to save them. The only problem is surviving the warming up period. A good example of this is his first encounter with Miss Martian. He was fresh from Cadmus when he first met her and her immediate use of telepathy while he was still raw and angry from his experiences as a captive made him treat her meanly. But once each member of the team proved they were worth his trust under fire he came to be devoted to all of them. Robin and Wally helped to teach him to lighten up and make some jokes. He tends to put the safety of his team ahead of his to the point when he was trapped and threatened with the very real possibility of drowning he still insisted that Robin and Artemis try and save M'gann first. Now that he's older this hasn't changed. He's still willing to throw himself into danger for the people he cares about but now he does it smarter.

You would have to be blind to notice that Conner's strongest trait is his general low level constant surliness. He's mellowed out in the five years since he was freed from Cadmus but he's still a grump. He has things he doesn't like and stubbornly refuses to budge on, like monkeys and supersuits. But he while he tends to come off as abrasive he still ends up being kind about it. When Blue Beetle goes up against an enemy with an ineffective attack Conner mutters about “newbies never doing their homework” but then goes on to explain exactly what he did wrong so that he won't repeat his mistake a second time. Deep down, Conner is a very caring young man. He ends up bonding easily with creatures like Sphere and Wolf. He doesn't emote very well but when he cares he finds ways to show it as best he can. Related to this, Conner is incredibly nonjudgmental about physical appearances. His girlfriend is a shapeshifting alien whose true form was considered hideous by most. Conner knew for months what she really looked like and simply let it be, believing that she would tell him in her own time.

Conner's identity has been an important aspect of his personality because it has changed so much from when he started out. At first the only name he had, for quite a while, was Superboy. Cadmus never bothered to give him an identity beyond that. It wasn't until weeks later when M'gann and the Martian Man hunter offered him a real name. Conner Kent. It wasn't until the end of season 1 where he found out just how important that name would become to him. When Superman revealed his secret identity as Clark Kent and told him that he was glad that Conner shared the same name it opened up a new world to him: one where he was part of a family. Clark introduced him to his mother and father who seem to have, by the 2016 timeline, happily adopted Conner into the family and regard him as a son. All of this went a long way in changing Conner's attitude and helping mellow him out.

More than that, over time Conner has realized the true value of being Superboy while doing his duty as a hero. He saw how important it was to make sure he was living up to what the shield when he saw how people reacted to him wearing it. People trusted him because of it even though they knew nothing else about him. Even though he's generally a pretty grumpy person he ends up putting on a good face for civilians.

In contrast, Conner is ashamed of his 'human' side if only because of where his human genetics came from. Having someone like Lex Luthor as his 'father' led him into some bad situations. When Luthor offered him a way to suppress his human DNA via the 'shields' Conner accepted them and felt guilty enough to cover it up so that the team wouldn't think badly of him. How could he be worthy of the team when he was accepting a bribe from someone who was obviously guilty? This allowed Luthor to get leverage on Conner to try and control him for the purposes of the plot. Eventually he confessed to the team and found they forgave him. But overall this has led to Conner distancing himself from classifying himself as human. When they travel to another planet with Miss Martian and Beast Boy and find out humans are unwelcome in that sector he argues that none of them are really human so it shouldn't count. He stops trying to argue the point when it's pointed that since he considers Earth his home that it's basically the same thing in the eyes of the wider galaxy.

Unsurprisingly, Conner is a very big advocate of people making their choices free of influence from others. That tends to happen when you were programmed to be a weapon by psychics. When told of another clone of Superman still sealed away in Cadmus his first reaction is to free his 'brother' Match and try to give him the same opportunity for freedom that he was given. Unfortunately Match was completely insane and couldn't feasibly live freely without trying to destroy everything around him. His reaction to this failure to save him is regret and anger because that could have easily been him.

Events throughout canon have given Conner a strong wariness of psychics. The only one he implicitly trusted with his mind was his girlfriend, M'gann. Their bond was strong and he had no fear of her entering his mind to purge out mental programming from Cadmus as well for the sake of intimacy. But as time went on and she became more aggressive in using her powers against enemies Conner began to disapprove. After arguing about it, she went too far in trying to stop him from making his objections. She tried to go into his mind and make him forget. This didn't work as after years of being together he recognized her touch in his mind. Completely betrayed by this mental violation he ended up breaking up with her. While he still has some lingering feelings for her, he can't forgive what she did to him.

Abilities/Skills: Conner is half kryptonian which means he has host of super powers that while not as impressive as Superman's can still do a lot in a fight.

Super Strength: He can crush tanks like soda cans and then toss their crumpled remains about a quarter of a mile away. And while Conner can't fly he's capable of jumping an incredible distance and land like the proverbial ton of bricks leaving a crater behind.

Infrared Vision: He can see in infrared, it's basically what it says on the tin.

Super Hearing: He can hear those rude things people say about him from across the room. But he's also sensitive enough to pick up on tones that normal humans don't have the range to hear.

Super Bitchface - I mean god look at the icons I have. He's got a super case of resting bitch face.

Invulnerability - Conner has been shot at with bullets, lasers, energy blasts and explosions and has come out of it none the worse for wear. He's pretty damn sturdy when all is said and done. That doesn't mean he won't be knocked down by a show of force but short of something serious like kryptonite he'll get right back up again.

Language Skills: Thanks to his time being psychically educated by G-Nomes, Conner has an extensive knowledge of several human languages. The wiki says these languages are Spanish, Atlantean, French, Korean, Arabic and Russian and possibly some others.

Combat Skills: He was taught the hard way that having super strength doesn't make up for a lack of skill. Thanks to lessons from Black Canary, Conner knows how to use force effectively against an opponent. The style he's been taught involves redirecting an enemy's attack to take them down. He's become skilled enough in the five years since he joined the team that he's started training new recruits.

Additionally with the use of an adhesive patch called a Shield, Conner can access full kryptonian powers for the space of an hour. This likely won't come up in game but he would gain: flight, heat vision, x-ray vision and super speed.

This is Superboy, designation B04. I'm looking to get in contact with anyone associated with the Justice League of Earth. I'm... [ How is he supposed to describe this? Being kidnapped isn't something that usually happens to him. ] I'm not sure what to do, there doesn't seem to be any available Zeta Tubes to use on this ship.

[ He makes a sound of frustration. It isn't often he feels powerless anymore. Most situations are ones he can punch his way out of if they're annoying enough. Punching through the hull of a ship sounds like a quick to get himself killed though. ]

This is stupid. If there's anyone from the League or even knows what the League is, then contact me. I'll be around. Not like I can do anywhere else. Superboy out. [ With that ever so eloquent statement he turns off his transmission with a sharp click. ]
